1883-O Morgan Dollar NGC MS-64 Both the obverse and the reverse of this original Morgan Silver Dollar are well struck and exhibit nice cartwheel luster. The obverse does not exhibit the typical characteristic weakness in the curl over the ear in Miss Liberty's portrait normally encountered with New Orleans minted Morgan Dollars. The points of the eagle's breast feathers are clearly visible on the reverse. Essentially a white coin. The obverse exhibits a puffy cheek and both the obverse and the reverse display the typical light bag marks commensurate with this grade. The VAM-8 attribution is not noted on the holder's label. The reason for this is that NGC does not currently attribute VAM Morgan Dollars that are not Top 100 or Hot 50 varieties. We will provide you with the ANACS population census to illustrate the general rarity of this coin. The ANACS population as of March 2002 in MS-64 was 0. If this coin were to be submitted to ANACS and crossed over and, if ANACS concurred with the MS-64 designation that NGC has given this coin, this coin would be the highest graded 1883-0 VAM 8 certified by ANACS! This (VAM-8) variety is listed on page 253 of the fourth edition of the "Comprehensive Catalog and Encyclopedia of Morgan & Peace Dollars" by Leroy C. Van Allen & A. George Mallis:
"Reverse: Normal die with II O mint mark tilted far to right."
