1887-O Morgan Dollar PCGS MS63 This original Morgan Silver Dollar has been authenticated and certified by PCGS and is encapsulated in their new blue-labeled holder. The obverse and the reverse are well struck for a New Orleans minted Morgan Dollar, exhibiting just a little of the typical characteristic weakness in the curl over Miss Liberty's ear and in the eagle's breast feathers. Cartwheel luster emanates from satiny fields. This specimen displays very few of the normal bag marks typically associated with this grade. This coin is essentially white. The reverse exhibits just a few tiny toning spots that are visible under high power magnification. The PCGS population as of April 2002 for an 1887-O MS63 VAM-9 is 0. The VAM-9 attribution is not noted on the holder's label. The reason for this is that PCGS has only recently begun to attribute Morgan VAM Silver Dollars. We will provide you with the ANACS population census to illustrate the general rarity of this coin. As of March 2002, ANACS had only graded 6 1887-O VAM-9 Morgan Dollars in mint state (2 in MS-60, 1 in MS-61, 2 in MS-62, and 1 in MS-63). If this Morgan Dollar was to be submitted to ANACS and crossed over and, if ANACS concurred with the MS-63 grade that PCGS has given this coin, this coin would be tied with the highest graded mint state 1887-O VAM-9 Morgan Dollar certified by ANACS!
